Barbecues without the woes

We all enjoy eating outside during the summer – be it picnics or barbeques, but sometimes we need a little reminder to keep al fresco dining safe. Food poisoning cases double over the summer, so it’s worth following these few simple tips to help keep bugs at bay:

  • With BBQs, the two main risk factors are undercooked meat, and spreading germs from raw meat onto food that’s ready to eat. Ensure meat is cooked all the way through before serving.
  • Never add remaining marinade which was used on the raw meat to cooked meat.
  • When handling raw meat, wash your hands thoroughly and frequently.
  • Keep raw and ready-to-eat food separate by using different chopping boards, cooking utensils and plates.
  • Allow time for any frozen food to thaw completely before cooking.
  • Keep cold foods cold, and hot foods hot until you’re ready to eat them.
