Web Accessibility Statement
Compliance Status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA.
We work with our website developers to regularly review and improve the accessibility of our digital content. Through ongoing testing and auditing, we may identify areas, modules, or templates requiring further improvement.
Preparation for this Accessibility Statement
This statement was prepared on 21 December 2023 and last reviewed on 27 June 2025.
A formal quality assurance process was carried out by Kooba Internet Solutions Ltd., through the Irish Beef website’s design process and with a combination of automated and manual accessibility audits, and the edits that derived from them, for the development process. A final verification audit was completed on 29 January 2024.
A continuous quality assurance process is carried out monthly by Kooba Internet Solutions Ltd.. Axe Monitor tool by Deque is used to identify automated issues across up to 500 pages on irishbeef.co.uk. Once automated issues are resolved, items flagged as “needs review” are manually verified by the Kooba team, followed by manual accessibility testing. At the time of this statement the latest Axe Monitor scan returned a score of 54.35%.
Non-Accessible Content
Some content on the Irish Beef website does not fully comply with the WCAG 2.1 guidelines. For example:
● Name, Role, Value: Ensures aria-hidden elements are not focusable nor contain focusable elements. Ensures links have discernible text. Planned remediation in 2025.
● Colour: Ensures the contrast between foreground and background colours meets WCAG 2 AA minimum contrast ratio thresholds. Ensure links are distinguished from surrounding text in a way that does not rely on colour. Planned remediation in 2025.
Limitations
● PDFs: Bord Bia has a large volume of PDFs hosted on its website. PDFs are less accessible than HTML pages for people using assistive technologies. However, Bord Bia has limited resources and finances to use in retrospectively tag all of the PDFs. For this reason, Bord Bia is committed to:
○ Appropriately tagging any new PDFs published on the website.
○ Tagging legacy documents over time, with a more urgent focus on documents that receive a large volume of traffic. This work will be ongoing.
● Images: Not all images on bordbia.ie have photo (or meta-) descriptions. Bord Bia has accrued an extensive catalogue of images and it would be a disproportionate burden based on Bord Bia’s limited resources and finances to properly tag all of the images immediately. However, Bord Bia is committed to:
○ Creating alt tags on each newly uploaded image.
○ Working through our library of previously uploaded imagery to tag each image.
Videos: Bord Bia hosts a large volume of videos on its website. Captioning is not present for many of these videos. Retrospectively captioning videos would take a large amount of financial and staff resources and would not be feasible based on Bord Bia’s budget and staff numbers. For this reason, Bord Bia is committed to:
○ Appropriately captioning any new videos uploaded to the website.
○ Tagging legacy documents over time, with a more urgent focus on videos that receive a large volume of traffic. This work will be ongoing.
